GRANTS AWARDED
The Institute staff and Board of Directors wish to express their deepest appreciation to the following organizations for supporting our work in 1999.
OPERATING STATEMENT
January through December 1999
The Alpern Family Foundation, $13,000 for supporting the MLUI Web site, the Great Lakes Bulletin, and for the purchase of computers.

The Borwell Charitable Foundation, $20,000 to support the Great Lakes Bulletin and the Web site.

The Clannad Foundation, $13,000 for the Grassroots Support Center and $3,000 for Celebrate Historic Sleeping Bear, a three-day event held to build support for preserving historic buildings in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and a 15-minute video promoting the message of the grassroots group Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear.

The Deer Creek Foundation, $50,000 for countering the private rights movement in Michigan.

The Dyer-Ives Foundation, $5,000 for an outreach and communications training program to speed development in Grand Rapids neighborhoods and slow suburban sprawl.

The Frey Family Fund, $5,000 for general support.

The Frey Foundation, $70,000 to support the Great Lakes Bulletin and for capacity building.

The Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat Network and Fund, $500 for communications in support of reforming the Michigan Drain Code.

The Joyce Foundation, $144,300 to support reform of transportation and land use policy in Michigan.

The Michigan Environmental Council, $3,000 for publication of the Great Lakes Bulletin.

The Oleson Foundation, $2,000 for Celebrate Historic Sleeping Bear.

The Steelcase Foundation, $5,000 for grassroots support of the growth management project in Grand Rapids.

The Wege Foundation, $5,000 to support rebuilding urban neighborhoods in Kent County.

The Samuel L. Westerman Foundation, $5,000 to strengthen public policy through our work with civic organizations, as well as communications via the Great Lakes Bulletin and our Web site.
