• The Joyce Foundation, $279,300 over two years to support a statewide initiative to reform transportation and land use policy.
• The Oleson Foundation, $2,500 to support an alternative transportation and land use plan in the Grand Traverse region.
  

Communications

• The Frey Foundation, $155,000 over two years to support the Great Lakes Bulletin, to provide technical assistance to citizens groups in the Grand Rapids region, and to strengthen the management and mission of the Institute.
• The Borwell Charitable Foundation, $20,000 to manage the Institute's new Web site, <www.mlui.org>, and for general support.
• The Alpern Foundation, $5,000 to support the Great Lakes Bulletin and the Web site.
• The Michigan Environmental Council's Land Stewardship Initiative, two grants totaling $2,360 to support the Great Lakes Bulletin and to improve Internet access.
  

Technical Support to Grassroots Organizations

• The Clannad Foundation, three grants totaling $8,500 to provide technical assistance to grassroots citizens groups, to support the Stewart Udall visit in June, and to preserve historic farmsteads in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
• The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, $1,700 to support Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear.
• The Americana Foundation, $4,000 to support Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear.
  

Oil and Gas Policy Reform

• The Dyer-Ives Foundation, $5,000 to advocate for an ecosystem-based land use plan for oil and gas development along the Lake Michigan coast.
